The beautiful Kylemore Abbey in Connemara Ireland was my mothers secondary school. I have made a nun doll in remembrance of all the Benedictine nuns who have resided there since the 1920's. Sadly there are only around 14 nuns remaining and they had to close their boarding school in 2010. The Abbey is now a visitor attraction - read all about them here www.kylemoreabbey.com
Abbess Magdelana is wearing the correct habit, this consists of beige undershorts and long vest, a wimple which is a white cotton head covering tied at the back, a white band across the forehead with a black veil over these.
The habit is a long black cotton tunic with long sleeves, a long black light wool tunic with long sleeves worn over this. The tunics are tied at the waist with a black cord. A long black tabard which is called a scapular is then worn over the top. Her black ankle boots are painted on.
Her face is needle sculpted and hand embroidered. She has light blue eyes, rosy cheeks and a joyous expression.
She has button jointed limbs for movement and sewn at the hips and elbows to allow for praying.

Her hands are softly stuffed and the fingers are handstitched.
Do not give to under 3 year olds
